SOCIETY GOLF “get together” before meeting on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers. Start at 12 noon. Meeting-BBQ to follow thereafter. For more information or to sign up, call Pete Van Slyck (Yonkers PD) at 914-963-2456.

JIM BYRNE SUPER RAFFLE is now in progress. Only 200 tickets at $100 per. This is our major fundraiser this year and we ask for the support of our membership. Tickets can be obtained from Justin Jacobsen (Mt. Pleasant PD), 914-494-3710, or Rob Nethercott (Mt. Pleasant PD), 914-760-5603. Drawing will be at June meeting.

SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS to be awarded at June Meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS to Tom Lynum (Ossining PD) and Marvin Oakley (Yonkers PD) on their
recent retirements. Also to Emma McCormack, daughter of member Pat McCormack (Yonkers PD), on her being awarded a scholarship from the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES). Emma will be attending Villanova University in September.

KEEP IN YOUR THOUGHTS John McKinnon (Pipes & Drums) who is dealing with serious ongoing medical issues, and Mike Johnson (Carmel PD ret.) who is recovering from surgery.

CONDOLENCES to the family and friends of Mary Hansen (New Castle PD), on the passing of her mother Dora Dennehy. May she rest in peace.

SAVE THE DATE Pipes & Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester fund raiser will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Fractoria (former Crystal Bay), Charles Point in Peekskill. Details to follow.

NCLEES FALL CONFERENCE will be held in San Diego CA, from November 7-10, 2019. For more information contact John Vize (New Castle PD ret.) at 914-438-6104.

As is customary, Society meetings are suspended for the summer months of July and August. The first meeting after the summer break will be September 26, 2019, at a location to be determined.

Our History


The Police Emerald Society of Westchester (PESW) was established in 1968. We are one of the largest and oldest Emerald Societies in the tri-state area. The Society consists of active and retired police officers.

The Society was conceived with 5 objectives:

  1. To develop and foster a spirit of camaraderie and fellowship amongst its members
  2. To uphold and defend the constitution of the United States and the State of New York at all times
  3. To instill and preserve in its members the heritage of their Gaelic culture
  4. Whenever possible, assist members and their families in times of need
  5. To award scholarships to children and grandchildren of Society members as provided by our by-laws

The National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES) was established in 1995. NCLEES is registered as a non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service and is incorporated in the state of Maryland. (Click here to learn more)

Grand Council of United ​Emerald Societies


We are a political umbrella organization representing Emerald Societies from various professional backgrounds united by a common goal. The Grand Council   includes twenty-three organizations with a combined  membership of nearly twenty-five thousand strong.
